About Us

In 1982 David Crichton-Watt set up Asian Investment Management Services (AIMS Ltd), a fund management and advisory business, in Hong Kong. Assets under management topped USD 250 million, including a 100m USD portfolio managed for Soros Fund Management.

In 1996, for various reasons David moved the fund management business to Malaysia. Here he teamed up with Tan Sri Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah to establish AIMS Asset Management Sdn Bhd (AIMS) – one of the first foreign fund management companies to be licensed by the Malaysian Securities Commission. Wan Azmi may be best known for his times as CEO of various listed companies such as Maybank and Amway Malaysia, as well as his chairmanship of the Malaysian Financial Reporting Foundation.

Malaysia is an efficient and cost-effective base for an Asian fund management company and Kuala Lumpur is probably the most pleasant Asian capital in which to reside. The rapidly developing financial services industry supported by a rigid regulatory structure makes Malaysia our choice location. Custodial and administrative services for portfolios under AIMS' management are provided by the global market leaders, generally from their offices in Hong Kong and Sydney. This clear separation of functions allows AIMS to focus on investing, while providing the appropriate security for clients' assets.
